2025 - Week 33
I’m finally getting my head out of the water after a pretty eventful summer, which started with spending eleven days caring for my partner, stuck at the hospital. It really sucked, I wouldn’t wish it on anybody and this is something that will keep my wonderful therapist busy for the forseeable future. Fortunately, as soon as things started improving, I took some time off for some much needed rest as well as entertaining my little sister who visited for the month.
Vancouver Island Is Great
We spent a week on Vancouver Island, which I really like because you can get there without a car and it involves a ferry. We spent the first 2 days in Victoria where I like to shop at Curious Comics. It actually became a little bit of a ritual for me, but I didn’t expect this time to run into Josh Johnson, a comedian from New York that we really like1. It took us a little while to actually dare say hi because we wanted to be 100% sure it was him when nothing on his socials mentioned that he would be in the area. He was super nice, we took a picture (that we’ll keep for ourselves) and talked about comic books for a few minutes before letting him go.
After that, we visited Parksville where we went to the beach, the lake, the minigolf, watched a bunch of older movies like Miss Congeniality and Going In Style, and looked at some impressive sand sculptures. We stayed there for 3 nights. When we woke up on the last day, the air was super smoky due to the forest fires nearby, which are basically a given nowadays. It still feels a little mind boggling to see people go on with their vacation and play tennis while the air is barely breathable. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.
We also spent the day in Bowen Island, one of my favourite places in BC. My partner and my sister went on their way to walk (and kayak!) around the island, while I spend the day working from a local coffee shop and the public library. I’m seriously considering going back there every now and then when working remotely from my home office gets a little too much and I feel in need of a change of scenery
Media Smorgasbord
Superman and Fantastic Four where both really solid movies that I wasn’t expecting to like that much. It feels great to enjoy this type of movie again after a bit of MCU nausea and DCU garbage. I also really liked KPop Demon Hunters, because of our obsessed young neighbours, but more on that later.
In terms of TV shows, A Good Girl’s Guide for Murder was good and I’m excited that a second season is coming, we went through the first avaialble half of the second season of Wednesday pretty quickly and we’re currently binging Invasion, which has managed to raise my blood pressure quite a bit.
I got a good chunk of reading done because I went through the 3 volumes of the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy. I’m still debating if I liked the last tome or if it felt a little rushed.
Craft
We heard a little bit about KPop Demon Hunter mostly from our 6yo neighbour who has been obsessed ever since they watched the movie, to the point where they would carry a big stick to represent Rumi’s sword. I’d been meaning to start print stuff again, so after checking with their parents, I grabbed a 3D model and printed the sword. I’m pretty happy with the results and so where the kids!
I got a tiny thermal printer for my birthday, pretty much the day after I read Robb Knight’s post about KnightPrint, which prooves I have the best friends. I’ve run a couple of test prints and I’m looking forward to experimenting some more soon.
Also, I printed two tiny washers so that our toilet seat would fit better. This printer is paying for itself. Kinda.
Conclusion
I’m missing a lot of stuff that happened in the past few weeks, but I really wanted to get the ball rolling and start writing here again. I apologize for this very messy article, but I’ll probably do it again. I don’t really see how you could stop me anyway.

I recommend this video, which covers the Bedbugs outbreak that happened in Paris a couple of years ago. IT’S AN OUTBREAK! ↩
