2025 - Week 14: The One Where The Weather Is Nice

A picture of a runner wondering who is his favourite character in Avatar.

We got a few days of perfect blue sky and “I don’t need a jacket” temperatures, which means going out for walks (sure, whatever) and long bike rides (hell yeah, I’m never walking anywhere ever again). It’s not enough to compensate for, well, everything else going on in the world right now, but it’s something. It did feel good to get back to my routine after the aftermath of COVID last week.

Speaking of COVID, I didn’t run on my own and I missed my weekly week run on Saturday. I originally believed there was no long run anyway (because there is always one Saturday off) but it did happen, so I did get sad about missing it. Fortunately, Tuesday was track night and I did go, worrying about my breathing after a week of coughing. It went pretty well, even if it felt a little rough during warm up.

The nice surprise was that one of the coach is a big fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which I noticed when he started the race with a “yip-yip”. I’d never had a discussion about Avatar (or anything really) while running track, but it roughly went like this:

Him: who’s your favourite character?

Me: Probably Katara?

🏃🏻‍♂️ I run a lap

Me: what about you?

Him: Probably Appa

Me: Hence the yip-yip

Him: Hence the yip-yip.

🏃🏻‍♂️ I run a lap

Me: Actually can I change my answer?

Him: Of course

Me: Uncle Iroh then

Him: oh good choice

If I remember to do it, I’ll probably ask his opinion about Legend of Korra next time I see him, assuming the workout isn’t too intense and I’m able to talk during the short breaks.

I didn’t expect this week would be the one where I’d learn what a trade deficit it, but the news have been a little depressing again, so I tried to get away from it and do more enjoyable stuff like going to the dentist or meeting some ex-colleagues for drinks. Hard to believe it’s been almost a year since I decided to take a leave of absence from Apple to take care of my mental health, which would eventually end up with me deciding not to come back at all. Working at Sound Games now is a completely different experience (as you can probably tell with this picture of me pasted onto a guy and his quote) and I’ve been enjoying it so far.

The weather was so good on Saturday that we grabbed the bikes for a 12km trip because we wanted try a desert from a place called Boketto in the River District. It’s funny because our realtor asked if we wanted to consider this neighbourhood when we were looking for a house, but there was nothing there. It’s nice to see how developed it is now, even if it somehow attracted a Cybertruck.

Cool stuff

This week I realized that printers are narcs and that I really liked the Framework Laptop 12. I really don’t need a 3 laptop in my life, but… it’s tempting. I’ve also discovered a band named HummusVacuum and they’re great. I think everybody should listen to at least one of their song, see what you think.
